What Psychotherapy offers

Psychotherapy offers a way to get to know ourselves better, to heal old wounds, and to cultivate better relationships—with ourselves and others. Therapy can help us lead healthier, more free and flourishing lives. These convictions guide my work with patients. I also bring a deep background in philosophy and its wisdom about the meaning and purposes of human life.

  • My approach emphasizes listening, empathizing, forming a strong alliance, and exploring with curiosity and respect the outsize role that childhood experiences play in how we feel, think, and act.

  • There are many ways to diminish suffering and to increase our vitality, connectedness, and flourishing. My postgraduate coursework and supervision has focused on psychodynamic and psychoanalytic training. In addition, I have training in meditation, yoga, breath work, CBT, IFS (Internal Family Systems), and trauma-informed psychotherapy, among others. What approaches work best depends on who you are and what you want from therapy.

  • Psychotherapy can be as valuable when things are going well as it is when we’re struggling. I work with people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, post-traumatic symptoms, sex and gender issues, family and marital conflict, grief, and other personal and spiritual challenges.

  • I work with adults and adolescents in all stages of life. I also work with couples.

  • Contact me directly to discuss what you’re looking for, and how we might work together. You can call me at 541-236-4437;‬ or email me if you have questions about becoming a patient.

Finances

  • I offer a sliding scale for those in financial hardship.

  • Currently I do not take insurance. I am glad to provide what’s called a “superbill.” Patients can submit this bill to their insurance company for reimbursement. (Not all insurance companies will reimburse for “out of network” services.) Those seeking therapy for the first time should be aware that insurance companies require a diagnosis as part of treatment, and may exercise control over the duration of therapy.
